Little girl.........

a little girl with whole lot of expectations,
never did she quit, never did she give up.
All the time, with her cute little smile,
spreading smiles on everyone's face passing by.
I am still doubtful if I saw her,
I am still in doubt if I love her.
How can she be in this cruel world?
How can she be still smiling in this sadist place?
All questions were answered, all riddles were solved.
No more confusion,no more doubts.
I realized it was you,
Though I wasn't me anymore.

Through the pathway

Going through the dusty pathway, into the winds of confusion and anxiety
Though you think it's near but they were no nearer than stars...
I will stand and I will measure the distances unmeasurable...

Even if it takes me to go into the fables...
When one has no power, one bows against the no one..
When a lamb becomes a bate it becomes a pleading mortal...
Darker becomes the clouds, intense becomes the fear:
It all is the same you see from the front or you peek into the rear
Answer still lies in the womb of future;
The present still is in a need of nurture.
Remains the darkness, remains the magic;
The feeling counts though distances are tragic

God save me!!

We frequently come across with situations where we are no more the masters of our fate, but where we couldn’t be more than a mere spectator of our forthcomings. I am not a prolific scholar and neither a “been there done that” type person who has experienced every possible way of living life (may sound unrealistic) and now has surely an authority to preach the best way to live life, if there is any. I am just mazed up by the existence of so many theories about the Almighty, His existence, His purpose and yet none of them justifying the purpose because each one of them depicts God as seen by a person be it Prophets, Muhammads or Our very own saints. The famous picture where a man is barely able to touch god’s hand ironically shows that they, who claim to have understood the purpose of God’s existence, His powers, are nowhere but at the periphery of the vast universe of knowledge about Him.

Our belief of God being Almighty deepens our belief on one more subjective issue “Destiny”. This belief is more befuddling and stupefying than any other concept as it questions the very purpose of life i.e. to make efforts, to strive for perfection. If one believes that the end is defined, then what is the purpose of putting efforts? If one is not getting the desired result then should he take the failure as destiny or accept the challenge and put more efforts?

The fecundity of this discussion lies in the answer to the question we have been asking to ourselves since the time of Homo Habilis i.e. what one means by God.

Man created god not only to seek shelter when he is weak but to explain some phenomena which, otherwise, were inexplicable. Through generations we are taught about the greatness of Him so that we consider numerous anti-society acts as sacrilege and thus develop a mental barrier to not let pass even a thought of doing them. The best way still leads to the development of a society which augments the growth of individuals. The society where romanticism, sentimentalism, emotions prevail and which helps an individual to reach that height from where he can see numerous other ways to live life.(Now it sounds realistic!)

Why am I distingusihed from other applicants for ISB.

As a Secretary of NSS, IIT Roorkee I have been working for the adopted villages which helped me to create a sync between my passion & aptitude of working for society. It helped me enhance my leadership quality. During my intern in CEL and C&S Pvt. Ltd, I learnt about organization structure and managerial role in an organization. I successfully completed the project of CEL aimed at reducing lead time in transporting finished goods using optimization techniques. Since childhood I have been a keen reader, which inculcated in me inquisitiveness for different fields. I believe in learning new things from everyone.

My zeal for social work, patriotism for country & my family background are the three pillars of my philosophy for doing MBA after completing engineering. Firstly, my enthusiasm for social service, I believe that whatever we have got from society, it’s our duty to repay back in one or the other form. I am passionate about life, my beliefs, and helping others; compassionate about people struggling to overcome obstacles. MBA will help me broaden my opportunities in a bigger platform & thus boost my spirit for providing basic amenities to lower sections of the society. Secondly, I don’t want to be an employee of an organization which is focussed on profits, but an entrepreneur working for the society & still making profits. After doing MBA from ISB, I will have a better exposure to the global market & thus brush up my social entrepreneurship skills to provide a source of livelihood for number of people keeping intact their dignity. This will not only improve the untapped potential of our large workforce but also correspondingly raise their standard of living. Thirdly, my family background made me familiar with the business world at an early stage which improved my understanding of the working of market forces & also enhanced my problem-solving skills.

Matka Theory

As every normal guy, I also like to see beautiful faces around me when I wake up in morning .I also like to hear euphonious flow of words which are poured into my ears. But what I get to hear is the cacophony of some “aliens” and the retro hits being played in full volume during early morning. These are the same songs which we used to watch in childhood on chitrahaar. You can see these aliens almost everywhere & now thanks to our new hostel accommodation scheme the “almost” has turned into “definitely”.

The problem is not just that we see their tanned & dark complexioned faces in the early hours but we have to survive that torture whole day. Whether it is bathroom, corridors, mess, departments & not to forget RP, they can be found everywhere. While I have always believed that people do learn with time, but I think they don’t believe this. Why they are not provided different hostels so that those who are human beings do not get affected by their matkagiri?

You walk through the corridor; you get to find some matka talking to his wife:

Matka: aur khana bana liya?

Mrs Matka: haan bana liya hain par namak jyada hain dal mein

Matka: toh thoda pani daal lo na. dilute ho jayega.( yes I study in IIT!!)

Mrs Matka: arre who toh daal diya par ab dal patli ho gayi hain.woh kya kehte hain non-viscous ho gayi hain. (damn how did he get there?)

Matka: achcha monu ko doodh pila diya?

Mrs Matka: haan haan manu ko pila diya.Tum bataon who thermo ka tute ho gaya?

Matka: haan ho toh gaya par Q1 , Q6 aur Q9 nahin hue. humne alpha ki value toh daal di thi par pata nahin efficiency kam kyon aa rahi hain.Achcha chalo hum rakhte hain, time nahin hain.IIT ki padai puri karni hain ki nahin.

Mrs Matka: haan haan.mann laga ke padho.rakhte hain.

(So cute!!!!)

In the early morning, at the time when you think whether you should wash your face or go directly to class, you can find some of them washing their clothes & some of them coming out of bathroom showing off their bare chest. What you can best do is squint your eyes till you come out of your hostel. But then you find them in long queue for breakfast. You can do nothing but to curse yourself. After waiting impatiently, you have your breakfast & then you leave for your classes. There you see not exactly matkas but you can say them" former – matkas". After their bromidic lectures, in the evening, you wish to go canteen & have some refreshments but voila, the devil is everywhere. You then forfeit your pleasure & decide to grab some packed food. Then you have many extra curricular activities going on which thankfully does not involve matkas. Finally you reach your room at late night just to regain some energy for some daunting tasks due next day .But you can’t sleep, not because you are not feeling sleepy but because a matka is not letting you switch off the corridor’s light which is filling your entire room.

You‘re Beautiful

I entered the place crowded with unknown faces, where everything was still..

It was a pool of silence in which everyone was immersed.

Neither I nor She said anything, not because we couldn’t but because we need not to.

Everything which she had to say, she kept it in her eyes.

Everything which I wanted to listen, I assumed it to be said.

Language lost its importance, smiles were all we had.

People cried, shouted & were burnt alive but sighs were all we had.

But we dint care, not because we dint want to but because we couldn’t.

Time had never diluted before, never had we loved each other this much before.

The moment was inexplicable, the emotions inexpressible.

I never realised how gorgeous she looks, never felt how her hands feel like.

She was no less than Aphrodite. She was no less than Venus.

Her face was exquisite, and, had innate innocence.

How can one survive such a brutal attack of beauty?

I will never forget her face bearing lecherous smile.

But I won’t lose any sleep on that because I’ve got a plan.

You are beautiful. And I don’t know what to do.

Cause I’ll never be with you.

Dil toh bacha hain ji

Well the title obviates any need to tell what this post is all about. I just came from watching another classic movie by Vishal Bharadwaj named “dil toh bacha hain ji”. One of the most awaited movie of 2011 has somewhere down the line disappointed the audience. The abrupt ending took place when the movie really caught the audience’s attention. A movie starring Ajay Devgan is assumed to have woth against the inflating prices of tickets(excluding morning show).Other so called actors(Emraan Hashmi) was given the job at which he is naturally skilled. Chatur(as we know) was able to bring faint smile on the faces of audience. Now even after such a bad experience, I surprisingly liked the movie. One actor which took away all the credit was sensuous, callipygian & aphrodisiacal damsel beauty Nikki Narang aka Shruti Hasan

Carpe diem

Life is an act where the characters are made to decipher their script while enacting. The “F” word is still ambiguous & disturbs the equability of minds. I am not using double entendre but alluding to the word “Future”. Wherever we go, we see thousands & thousands of people running to make their so called “future“ better. They are surreptitiously being trapped in this beautiful reverie of living in a better state. I am not disparaging the dynamic & foresighted nature of human being but asking why to kill present exuberant moments at the cost of nurturing just one hope- a better tomorrow?

In my school days, I always used to contemplate that why people can’t accept the small packets of happiness bestowed upon us .Going on personal experiences, I felt elated when girl next to me used to give a glance. I was brimmed with joy whenever I got a chance to see topper of our class being scold. I always used to have an adrenaline rush whenever I got to see any tussle going on. I always bore a beaming smile whenever we had a free period. I always used to take a longer route just to have the glimpse of one of our seniors whose beauty was unbounded by evolution.

Obviously I am not condoning the very act of being childish & admiring beauty but the point is that why we admire the cacophony of machines & feel petulance when an infant cries? Why we have always been pelted with questions about our future, career prospective, marriage, salary et cetra? Why we are forced to capitulate against the uncertainty of future? Why people in developing countries are happier than in developed ones?

The milestones achieved in this endless race of better tomorrow have left nothing incriminating to doubt its vitality. Everyone seems to be in a hallucination with no one to trigger their minds. All over are people wallowed in this rat race where a giant cat is sauntering at finishing line.

Booming voice!!!

I recover from my reverie. Is this a vicious circle of materialism & insatiable nature of Mr Adam?Does that mean our life is no better than any animal trying to please his senses?

The answer is a blatant No. We students are expected to become sallow because of late night studies. We have always numerous eye balls raised towards us while talking about Science & Technology. But who will conceal the proxies, ad hoc style studies, beer cans in our room, cigarettes in drawer, the endless crushes, V- day celebrations, bars outside the campus & best of all- Bakar.

We, students, have always showed our society the right path for their glorifying future. They who say we can be moulded any way belittle what we did in past.

Who can understand better than us the saying-enjoy the day and pluck when it is ripe”?

ROLE OF YOUTH IN DECISION- MAKING PROCESSES`

My essay for e-summit.

The value of youth participation is now recognized at levels ranging from the local community to the international arena. However, recognition is not the same as action, and progress in the area of practical implementation has been slow. Even in those countries that have achieved the most, participation remains at low levels and insufficiently integrated into all areas of young people’s lives.

Many organizations are still unconvinced that youth can play a leading or supportive role in helping them achieve their programme goals. Initiatives may be limited to seeking the views of young people on particular issues; their involvement in decision-making is rarely considered. Young people therefore remain uninformed about most democratic processes. Token participation is meaningless, as it does not empower young people to influence outcomes and achieve real change. The repetitive and widespread failure of the adult world to act in ways that promote the welfare of young people is well documented. Efforts must be made to listen to youth and engage them in the process of strengthening participatory democracy. Their involvement can lead to better decisions and outcomes. Participation promotes the well-being and development of young people, strengthens their commitment to and understanding of human rights and democracy, and provides them a form of protection; it also allows them to take part in decision-making processes. It is by questioning; expressing their views and having their opinions taken seriously that young people develop skills, build competencies, acquire confidence and form aspirations. It is a virtuous circle. The more opportunities a young person has for meaningful participation, the more experienced and competent he or she becomes. This allows more effective participation, which in turn enhances development.

Youth participation is an essential strategy for ensuring young people’s optimal development and for achieving wider development goals for society. The progress made to date in promoting participation should be sustained and enhanced. Youth participation must become an integral component of, local, national and international policies for youth, and should provide the framework for decisions and actions that affect the daily lives of children and young people. Only then will the traditional approaches towards youth begin to evolve and the oft-stated commitment to their participation begins to have meaning. The approach must promote respect for them as social actors, as agents in their own lives, and as citizens of their own societies.

. Young people have various opportunities to become active in processes as varied as the following:

• Research. Many examples exist of young people being provided with training as researchers and then undertaking independent investigations focusing on issues of direct concern to them.

• Programme design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation: young people share their views and experiences to help design and implement programmes that target their specific needs; by playing a key role in monitoring and evaluation, youth are able to help the programme meet its objectives and adjust to changing circumstances as necessary.

• Peer support, representation and advocacy. Young people are increasingly being provided with opportunities to elect or be elected by their own peers to serve as advocates, working with adult institutions to lobby for greater respect for their rights.

• Policy analysis and development. Many initiatives involve young people in reviewing existing legislation and policies from the perspective of their own experience.

• Participation in and use of the media. Young people have traditionally been excluded from active participation in the media, but in many countries they are receiving training as youth journalists, running their own radio programmes, developing video tools for the promotion of rights, and publishing journals and newsletters.

• Conference participation. Young people have participated in local, national and international conferences as organizers, speakers, delegates and reporters, often with significant impact on the outcomes of such events.

• Youth councils and parliaments. In a number of countries, young people have participated in the development of democratic political structures that parallel those of the adult world and provide opportunities to inform and influence key economic, social and political agendas.

It is important that young people are not pushed into replicating traditional adult models for democratic participation but are equipped to create new collaborative approaches. It is also important that youth-led organizations observe the principles of transparency, accountability, on-discrimination and mutual respect.
